Step 1 - Gather Data

The first step is gathering quality data. We use the Birkman Method to accomplish this- the gold standard in “personality” assessments. It is the ONLY assessment on the market measuring a person’s underlying needs and expectations. It is completed online and takes roughly 40 minutes to complete. Watch the video to learn more. 

For the process to help students, there must be buy-in. For the process to help parents, there must be understanding of assessment results. That happens during small group sessions. We meet with students for 50 minutes (a class period) in groups no larger than 10 THEN meet with parents in similar group sizes at a separate time for roughly 75 minutes.

This program is only valuable if students and parents know how to take a next step based on what they learned during their time with us. Because most of your students plan on going to college, this next step will primarily come in the form of tailored college and major matches. There is, however, an application for you- the school- once we’ve met with students and gathered class data. We meet with you and help you understand what it’s saying about your students.

  • Junior year of high school. It gives them plenty of time to explore before they feel the pressure of declaring a major.

  • Good. You should be skeptical of personality tests or any assessment that claims to be a "crystal ball" for life direction. Though we believe the Birkman is a powerful tool, it isn't what provides meaning to work. It's simply a starting point for us to help your son or daughter find work they will love and excel in.

  • The Birkman is a for-profit company. Their business model is to sell Birkmans. Yet, they tell me to tell you- only take it once in your life. The results will remain steady over time.

  • Most of my schools place the cost of the program on parents. They will help me 'market' this to their junior and senior classes then let me take it from there. More of my schools, though, are attaching a shadowing program to what I do.
